When Attention Is No Longer Free
Sometimes the stimulus appears in a second: a notification, a sharp message, a conflict, the urge to open a feed, the desire to buy something or smoke.
A moment ago, attention was with the chosen task, conversation, or rest. Now it is already being pulled into an automatic action: check, answer, prove, replay, buy, escape.
Attention OS calls this moment attention capture. It is not a verdict and not a sign of weakness. It is an event you can learn to notice.
The first step is not to forbid the reaction. The first step is to see: attention is captured right now.
Digital capture
A notification, feed, or YouTube pulls you to open and check one more time.
Emotional capture
A conflict, sharp message, or hurt self-image starts the need to answer, prove, or argue.
Impulse
The urge to smoke, buy, or do something immediately starts driving the action for you.
